Computing & Systems Technology OYR Award


Our co-authored paper, titled “Global carbon intensity of crude oil production” (Science 31 Aug 2018: Vol. 361, Issue 6405, pp. 851-853), was recently published in Science Magazine. This paper reports the results of a multi-institutional collaboration to quantify and rank the countries by the life cycle greenhouse gas emissions of crude oil production. PEESE postdoctoral fellow, Dr. Chao Shang, has recently accepted an offer from Tsinghua University to join the faculty of the Department of Automation as a tenure-track Assistant Professor (starting fall 2018). This is a top-ranked department in the field of Control Science and Engineering at one of the world’s most prestigious institutions. Our heartfelt congratulations to Chao!

PEESE M.Eng. students were recognized with distinguished awards by the Smith School of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering. The Spring 2018 Outstanding M.Eng. Project Award was bestowed to Wei-Han Chen for his work on model predictive control for building energy optimization. Schuyler Gardner won the Outstanding M.Eng. Project Award of Fall 2017 for her project on pharmaceutical clinical trial planning at PEESE. Schuyler is now working as a Bioengineer at Celgene.
